Introduction

As women, we often focus on taking care of those around us and may neglect our own health needs. However, regular well-woman checks are an essential part of maintaining good health and preventing potential health issues.

At Profile Aesthetic, we are proud to announce our new Women's Health service, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for the women of Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland.

What are Well-Woman Checks?

Well-woman checks are personal health checks involving a detailed history and examination designed to evaluate overall health with a specific focus on reproductive health.   The aim is to identify any potential health issues early and advise on best ways to address these.  Health checks include a general examination focusing on breast and pelvic examinations, including cervical screening.  Blood testing, such as a hormonal profile and thyroid check, are also offered.

Why are Well-Woman Checks Important?

Well-woman checks are important because they can help detect potential health issues early, when they are most treatable. Some of the benefits of regular well-woman checks include:

  • Early detection of breast conditions and cervical cancer
  • Early detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Detection and management of hormonal conditions
  • Prevention and management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease
  • Counselling on healthy lifestyle choices

What is Included in a Well-Woman Check?

A typical well-woman check includes the following:

  • General physical examination: an overall health check, including your weight, blood pressure, and heart rate.
  • Breast examination: checking for lumps or other abnormalities in your breasts.
  • Pelvic examination: checking for any abnormalities with your reproductive health, such as pain, discharge and masses.
  • Cervical smear: primary screen for HPV (human papilloma virus) as the main precursor for abnormal cervical cell changes, with the added option of cell screening.
  • Blood tests: testing for your hormone profile and thyroid function, which may include additional testing for glucose, a complete blood count, cholesterol screening, and any others relevant to your medical history.

Conclusion

Regular well-woman checks are essential for maintaining good health and detecting potential reproductive health issues early. At Profile Aesthetic, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive women's health services to the women of Scotland. Our Women’s Health specialist will work with you to develop a personalised care plan that meets your unique health needs.
